Fried squid calamari

4 to 6 squid or calamari about 1 1/2 cups cut into rings
1 tsp chilli powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp cornstarch
1/4 to 1/2 cup bread crumbs
oil to fry

Marinate the squid with chilli powder and salt, leave aside for 10 minutes, don't throw out the water from the marinate. Toss the squids with cornstarch. Then coat with fine breadcrumbs and leave aside till the oil is hot.

Heat the oil in high heat and fry. It shouldn't get dark brown, if needed lower the heat as it should be golden brown in colour. Drain the squid onto a paper towel and serve warm.

  1. Love fried squid but have never made it at home.
Not sure how the breadcrumbs will adhere to the cornstarch coating though.
    Beautiful photos.

  2. This is lovely. I like that you marinated the squid prior to frying in the chili powder...for a little zip!

  4. thank you for the comments hope you get to try this at home
The cornstarch will help to coat the squid without holding a lot of breadcrumbs. This is good because it avoids the breadcrumbs from falling while frying and it is easy to fry.
