I made this flower birthday cake with 12 cupcakes for my daughter's birthday. I used the following buttercream icing to decorate, which was easy to work with and tasted delicious.
For the buttercream icing you will need
4 oz butter unsalted
1 1/2 cups icing sugar
pinch of salt
2 tbsp milk*
*adjust the amount of milk according to the piping consistency you want.
Beat the room temperature butter till it is creamy and add the icing sugar slowly while beating and add the milk. Separate the icing before adding gel food colouring.
To decorate I used a few Wilton tips.
2D to make drop flowers
5 to make the yellow dots
21 stars on the stem
352 for the petal
To serve and present the cupcakes as a flower I used a green tray.
