Amaize Sweet Corn, a rare breed of non-GMO bred white corn grown in a limited supply throughout the United States is now available for a limited time in select cities including in Houston, Indianapolis, Des Moines, Spokane and Buffalo, and Toronto during warm summer months. If you are in Toronto, you can purchase it at Loblaw Supermarkets. This sweet corn is known for its deliciously sweet flavour and crunchy texture.
The Amaize Sweet Corn is created using traditional, natural breeding methods through hybridization (meaning it's never genetically modified). Amaize Sweet Corn has natural health benefits such as antioxidants, phytochemicals that benefit eyesight, and fiber to promote healthy digestion. An ear of sweet corn has a caloric value similar to an apple with nearly 2/3 less sugar.
In addition to being sweet enough to eat right off the stalk, the unique taste and texture of each kernel adds a little something special to dishes like sweet corn soup, corn cilantro salad, cold corn risotto salad, sweet corn and avocado salsa and more. Amaize Sweet Corn is perfect for warm afternoon BBQs with the family.
George Crookham and Bruce Hobdey began working on perfecting the taste and texture of Amaize Sweet Corn in 1989 after experiencing a type of corn with a crunch and a pop that differentiated itself from the textures of other corns, which tended to get mushy when cooked. In the 22 year development period, the duo tested well over 50,000 variations of corn and perfected this sweet corn.
