Before long it will be holidays, and I am sure many of us our thinking what gifts we can get for family and friends. Winter holidays is a time when my family and I get together to bake and decorate cakes and cookies. I like the colourful, quality Trudeau tools that are essential in the kitchen when we bake.
To make these delicious ginger bread star shaped cookies from the Betty Crocker Cookbook, we will need the following ingredients.
Gingerbread cookies
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter softened
1/2 cup molasses
1/3 cup cold water
3 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground allspice
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp salt
Beat brown sugar, butter, molasses and water with electric mixer on medium speed or with a spoon until it is well blended. Stir in the remaining ingredients until mixed and leave it covered in the fridge for about 2 hours.
Remove the dough from the fridge and divide it in half. Roll each roll on lightly floured surface until 1/4 inch thick. Cut the dough using a cookie cutter and place the cutouts about 2 inches apart.
Bake the cookies for about 10 to 12 minutes in a preheated 350F oven until no indentation remains when touched in center. Immediately remove the cookie from the tray and let it cool for about 30 minutes before decorating. The cookie sheets need to cool for about 10 minutes between batches.
Decorator's frosting
2 cups icing or powdered sugar
2 tbsp water or milk
1/2 tsp vanilla optional
Mix all the ingredients together with a spoon until it is smooth and spreadable. Cover and set aside. When the cookies are ready to decorate, spoon the frosting into the bag and start decorating.
The above Trudeau Cake Decorating Set is the perfect starter kit for avid bakers. The set includes six of the most popular decorating tips: small round, large round, small star, large star, petal and leaf.

The standard coupler lets us change decorating tips at any time and fits securely onto the reusable dishwasher safe 14" piping bag. The tips and coupler go into the included mesh bag for easy cleaning and storage of all small parts.
The Trudeau 2 in 1 Large Spatula has clever design features including an integrated spoon rest and a dual ended handle that elevates this simple tool to a different level. Use the larger end for scraping the bowl without scratching cookware, the smaller end for spreading icing and then place it down on the counter without leaving a mess!
The versatile set of 5 Star Shaped Cookie Cutters have a fine stainless steel edge and it is ideal for cookie dough, fondant, pastries, shortbread or for creating decorative slices of fruit. This hand wash only, celestial metal set nests together for compact storage. We had fun using the star shaped cookie cutter to make these cookies.
The fancy and functional non-stick 11 3/4" x 16 1/4" Baking Liner from Trudeau is decorated with positioning circles for perfect placement of cookie dough. I like that this liner can be folded in half to adapt from large to large baking sheets. The heat resistant silicone liner protects bakeware and it's easy to clean then rolls up for compact storage.
The Balloon Whisk from Trudeau is a staple in our kitchen as it helps to get a consistent texture in baking ingredients and sauces. The heat resistant silicone covered wires will not scratch cookware and the sealed connection between the whisk and the handle makes it easier to clean.
For creating traditional round shapes this double sided set of colourful Cookie Cutters with the straight and wavy edges will come in handy. I like that this cutter is made with plastic, and cuts the surfaces smoothly and release dough easily and cleanly. I have used it for a variety of baking needs, as well as to cut sandwiches and pancakes. All five sizes snap together and it is dishwasher safe.
