Since it is high in protein and as nutritious as fresh or frozen fish, I like using Clover Leaf Tuna to prepare a variety of meals from savoury snacks for tea, in sandwiches for school or when we travel, when preparing breakfast, lunch and dinner.
This quick and delicious Savoury Tuna Cakes would be wonderful to serve on its own or in a bun.
1 can of Clover Leaf All Natural Tuna
1 cup potatoes boiled and peeled
handful coriander leaves or parsley chopped to preference
1 tbsp chopped onions optional
1/4 tsp turmeric
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp salt to taste
Mix all the ingredients and form ball shapes, and slightly flatten it to make the cakes or patties.
*if shallow frying coat lightly with flour and shallow fry in 2 tbsp olive oil
**add 1 egg to the mixture only if you are coating with breadcrumbs and deep frying
Serve the fish cakes with ketchup and mayonnaise. Or it can be served in a toasted and buttered bun, topped with tamarind sauce and green chutney.

ReplyDeleteJust because I don't know. What does Turmeric taste like?
Turmeric is a yellow coloured spice it has lots of health benefits. It is not spicy and doesn't really have a taste that I can describe. It removes fish smells :) you can omit this if you do not have.
DeleteI have mentioned two ways of making the fish cakes one breadcrumb and deep fried or flour coated and shallow fried. This is a recipe you can adjust and play with depending on taste. Even the herbs can be substituted coriander, parsley, chives. Nicole looking forward to hear your thoughts after you make the fish cakes.
Oh wow, I haven't had fish cakes since I was a kid I don't think. I must make some of these. Thanks for sharing.
